Site Description

The city of Da Nang consists of a land area and an archipelago on the East Sea. Its mainland latitude and longitude are 15055' to 16014' N and 107018' to 108020' E. Da Nang borders with Thua Thien-Hue Province in the north, Quang Nam Province in the south and the west, and the East Sea in the east. Its sea area consists of the Hoang Sa archipelago, which is located at 15045’ to 17015’ N and 1110 to 1130E and about 120 nautical miles to Ly Son Island, Quang Ngai province, in the south.
Da Nang is situated in the centre of Viet Nam, 764km from Ha Noi and 964km from Ho Chi Minh City. It lies on the north-south transport axis of land, rail, sea and air routes. From Da Nang, visitors can conveniently access four famous World Heritage Sites, comprising Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Hue Citadel, Hoi An Old Town, and My Son Cham Sanctuary.
Tien Sa Port is a pivotal part of the East-West Economic Corridor, the gateway to the Pacific Ocean of Laos, Thailand, Myanmar and central Viet Nam. Located on the international sea and air routes, Da Nang has an especially favourable location for rapid and sustainable development.
The city has a natural land area of 1,283.42km2, comprising 241.51km2 of urban districts and 1,041.91 km2 of rural districts. Coastal waters under the jurisdiction of the city of Da Nang covers an area of about 59,758.21 ha. The Da Nang fishing ground is over 15,000 km2 with abundant marine animals, of which seafood is of high economic value is over 16 species and distributed in water depths of 50-200m.
The development objective is to construct and develop Danang city to be one of the large national urban areas of the country and a major socio-economic hub of Central Vietnam with the role of a service hub, the seaport city, the important domestic and international transportation and transit hub; the post – telecommunication and finance – banking center; and one of the centers of culture and sports, education and training, science and high technology in Central Vietnam, the city of strategic position in defense and security of Central Vietnam and the whole country.
The economic growth is expected to reach 12 – 13%/ year, making Danang a powerhouse of growth and development for the neighbouring areas. The economic structure has been transformed towards services-industry, construction – agriculture. The expected economic structure of the city by 2020 would be 55.6%, 42.8% and 1.6% for services, industry and construction, and agriculture respectively. By 2020, the city’s GDP is expected to account for approximately 2.8% of the country’s GDP; export turnover in the period of 2011-2020 is expected to increase by 19 – 20%/ year; GDP per capita is expected to reach US$4,500 – 5,000; the revenue rate over GDP is expected to be maintained at around 35-36%; and the speed for annual average technological innovation is expected to be at 25%.
The city aims to develop Danang to be an “environment-friendly city” by 2020. Further realize the targets, namely: 100% domestic and industrial wastewater would be treated to meet the environmental standards; 70% of solid waste would be recycled; 25% of the water would be re-used; Expand the urban green space with around 9- 10 m2/ person by 2020.
