100 Ha Tangerang Mangrove Center at Tanjung Pasir plus Patramanggal a and Kronjo Mangrove area and condition in priority sites:
1) Ketapang: 3.1724 Ha; Species - Avicennia marina; Density – 1,100 ind/ha for adult trees; 2,800 ind/ha for saplings; and 20,000 ind/ha for seedlings; Condition - moderate damage based on the standard criteria of mangrove destruction based on Ministry of Environment Decree No. 201 of 2004; Associated biota - Associated biota – gastropods (Littorina sp)
2) Kronjo_ 3.1990 Ha; Species – Rhizophora aviculata; Avicennia marina; Density – adult trees – 1,400 ind/ha; seedlings – 20,000 ind/ha; Condition – moderate damage; Associated biota – gastropods (Littorina sp)
3) Patramanggala: 0.8438 Ha
4) Tanjung Pasir: 4.6669 Ha; Species – Rhizophora sp and Avicennia sp.; Density – adult trees 1,350 ind/ha; saplings 2,400 ind/ha; seedlings 70,000 ind/ha; Condition – moderate damage; Associoated biota – gastropods (Littorina sp) and fish (mudskipper) |
Areal extent of damaged/degraded habitats | | | X | Total mangrove cover in Tangerang Regency decreased from 487.5 Ha in 1996 to 228.7 Ha in 2005, and 79.12 Ha in 2015. The large decrease in mangrove cover has been associated with the shoreline changes in the regency, which experienced abrasion/erosion in 579.9 ha of coastal area from 1995 to 2015.
Specifically, in the pilot sites (1995-2015)
- Ketapang: 107.57 Ha abrasion (rate - 6.5 ha/yr)
- Kronjo: 11.11 Ha abrasion; 0.45 Ha accretion
- Patramanggala: 14.08 Ha abrasion
- Tanjung Pasir: 14.95 Ha abrasion; 84.29 Ha accretion

Partnerships with private sector on mangrove restoration
- Since 2015, 200,000 mangroves planted in collaboration with private sector PLTU, Doulton, YKK, Panarub, Adis
Community empowerment and engagement in mangrove restoration:
- Mangrove study visit and training conducted for 30 groups starting 2015, although currently only 7 groups are active
- 1,000 mangroves planted from 2015 – 2017 involving the community:
- 200,000 mangrove seedlings planted by community with estimated value of $100,000 (bought by private sector partners for reforestation activities) |
