IMO Launches MEPSEAS Website

The International Maritime Organization launched the Marine Environment Protection of the South-East Asian Seas (MEPSEAS) website in April 2019. Through the MEPSEAS Project, IMO is helping to give this unique region the protection it needs MEPSEAS is assisting participating developing countries address high-priority marine environment issues related to ships and shipping–in particular, implementing four of IMO’s key international environmental conventions: Ballast Water Management Convention (BWM), Anti-fouling Systems Convention (AFS), Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL), and London Protocol on Dumping of Wastes at Sea (London Protocol). Funded by Norad (the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation), MEPSEAS is building on a successful four-year (2013-2017) foundation project that focused on accession to these conventions, prioritized by participating countries.
