Everyone depends on Earth’s ecosystems and their life-sustaining benefits, such as clean air, fresh water and healthy soils. Founded in 2000, the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund is a global leader in enabling civil society to participate in and benefit from conserving some of the world’s most critical ecosystems. We provide grants for nongovernmental and private sector organizations to help protect biodiversity hotspots, Earth’s most biologically rich yet threatened areas.
 

Deltares is an independent, institute for applied research in the field of water, subsurface and infrastructure. Throughout the world, we work on smart solutions, innovations and applications for people, environment and society. Our main focus is on deltas, coastal regions and river basins. Managing these densely populated and vulnerable areas is complex, which is why we work closely with governments, businesses, other research institutes and universities at home and abroad. Our motto is Enabling Delta Life. As an applied research institute, the success of Deltares can be measured in the extent to which our expert knowledge can be used in and for society. The ICF is a cross-departmental fund established by the UK 2010 Comprehensive Spending Review to provide climate change related aid over the period 2011-12 to 2014-15. In essence, the ICF commits UK climate finance for two years beyond the Fast Start period (2010-2012). The initiative is implemented by three agencies: Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), Department for International Development (DFID), and Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). The UK Government has set up ICF to help developing countries tackle climate change and reduce poverty. The initiative will work in partnership with developing countries to take action to reduce carbon emissions and to help people adapt to the effects of climate change. The ICF will focus on three priorities: Helping the poorest people adapt to the effects of climate change on their lives and livelihoods Helping poor countries develop in ways that avoid or reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions and enabling millions of people to benefit from clean energy Protecting the world’s forests and the livelihoods of the 1.2 billion people who depend on them

Dr. Chua served as PEMSEA's Regional Programme Director for 15 years. Under his able leadership, PEMSEA evolved from a project-oriented entity focusing on coastal management into a regional collaborative organization for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Strategy for the Seas of East Asia (SDS-SEA). His expertise in coastal and marine area management, and knowledge in coastal and ocean affairs has contributed greatly to the successful implementation of various PEMSEA programs and activities in the region, including the establishment of ICM sites in the region, the creation of the PEMSEA Network of Local Governments for Sustainable Development (PNLG), and the cooperation among various stakeholders and the East Asian countries in adopting the SDS-SEA as framework and ICM as tool for coastal and marine management in the region.

After retiring from his post in 2007, Dr. Chua continued to guide PEMSEA when he was elected as the first Chair of the East Asian Seas Partnership Council until 2013. As Council Chair, Dr. Chua's provided significant support in laying out the building blocks toward the transformation of PEMSEA into a country-owned self-sustaining international organization focusing on coastal and ocean governance in East Asia.

Dr. Chua has authored more than 200 papers, articles and a number of books on coastal and ocean management, including The Dynamics of Integrated Coastal Management, which is considered as one of the key resource materials for academicians, coastal managers and policymakers. He has been a recipient of several awards from societies and governments.

EEPSEA offers research and training grants to build the environmental economics research capacity of local researchers in its 10 member countries and help them provide sound advice to policy makers.

We believe enhancing capacity of marine conservation managers and practitioners will improve the quality of overall ecosystem. We learn from real best practices and share them with wider networks.
 

EuropeAid reinforces the ability of the EU to design state-of-the-art development policy for all developing countries, and enhances policy coherence for development while further improving implementation and delivery mechanisms. It also defines the future development policy drawing from the objectives of the EU's Green Paper on development policy and contributes to global challenges ahead.

Since 2008, the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) has been financing climate and biodiversity projects in developing and newly industrialising countries, as well as in countries in transition. In the early years of the programme, its financial resources came from the proceeds of auctioning allowances under the emissions trading scheme. To ensure financial continuity, further funds were made available through the Special Energy and Climate Fund. Both funding mechanisms are now part of the Federal Environment Ministry’s regular budget.

The IKI is a key element of Germany’s climate financing and the funding commitments in the framework of the Convention on Biological Diversity. The Initiative places clear emphasis on climate change mitigation, adaption to the impacts of climate change and the protection of biological diversity. These efforts provide various co-benefits, particularly the improvement of living conditions in partner countries.
