Marie Frances J. Nievales

Marie Frances J. Nievales is an Associate Professor in the Division of Biological Sciences at the University of the Philippines Visayas, Miagao, Iloilo campus. She served twice as Division Chairperson and was Station Head of the UPV Marine Biological Station in Guimaras for over a decade. She holds degrees in Marine Science and Marine Biology from the University of the Philippines Diliman.

Her research focuses on marine ecology, seagrass ecosystems, coastal resource management, and the aquaculture of high-value marine invertebrates. She has contributed to studies on benthic habitat assessment, seagrass system responses to disturbance, and sustainable fisheries enhancement. Her work supports science-based conservation strategies and coastal management initiatives in the Philippines.
