Guangdong Ocean University (GDOU) is located in Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province, China. Founded in 1935 by Guangdong Province and the Ministry of Natural Resources, it specializes in marine and aquatic studies, reflecting its commitment to the development and sustainability of ocean resources. The university offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs in the marine and aquatic disciplines. It features a Museum of Aquatic Organisms established in 1991 that holds nearly 3000 specimens of marine and aquatic organisms and hosts a National Marine Science Education Base with programs such as ocean advocacy, resource surveys and study tours.
GDOU, through the Guangdong Academy of Coastal Economic Belt Development is known for its research initiatives related to humanities and social sciences through its 5 centers focused on Marine Economic Belt Development Strategy, Sea Area and Island Management, Marine Culture and Social Governance, Marine Resources and Environment, and Integration of Land and Marine Spatial Planning.
GDOU, as a new member, hopes to forge more connections with and learn from other Network members, promote research collaboration, and to increase international showcase and impacts. In return, GDOU may share experiences on ICM and marine-related research and practices, provide exchange opportunities for research and education, collaborate in applying for international grants and host annual PNLC meetings.
